How to use the Password Generator

  1. A strong password is generated as soon as the page opens.
  2. Adjust the length — 16 characters or more is recommended.
  3. Choose which characters to include, and whether to avoid look-alikes such as I, l, 1, O and 0.
  4. Click Copy, then paste the password into the sign-up or change-password form. Click "New" for another one.

What makes a password strong?

A strong password is your first defence for email, banking, UPI and social media accounts. Attackers use computers that try billions of guesses per second, so short passwords and anything based on names, dates of birth or common words (like Rahul@123) can be cracked in minutes.

Length matters most. Every extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords. A random 16-character password using letters, numbers and symbols has over 100 bits of entropy — far beyond what any computer can guess. Using a mix of character types helps too, but adding length is usually the easiest win.

Use a different password for every account. When one website is hacked, criminals try the leaked email and password on other sites. A password manager (such as the one built into your phone or browser) can remember unique passwords for you, so you only need to remember one master password.

Passwords here are created with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator — the same kind of randomness used for encryption. They are generated on your device and never sent anywhere, and this page does not store them. Turn on two-factor authentication (OTP or an authenticator app) wherever it is offered for an extra layer of protection.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated passwords stored or sent anywhere?

No. Passwords are created in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to our server and are not saved — refreshing the page creates a new one.

How long should my password be?

Use at least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts like email and banking. Longer random passwords are much harder to crack.

Are these passwords truly random?

Yes. They use crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator, and each character is chosen without bias.

Why avoid look-alike characters?

Characters like capital I, lowercase l and the number 1, or capital O and zero, are easy to confuse when you read or type a password by hand. Leaving them out makes the password slightly shorter in variety but easier to type.

What does "bits of entropy" mean?

It measures how many guesses an attacker would need. Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses. Around 60 bits is reasonable, and 80 bits or more is considered very strong.

How do I remember a random password?

You don’t need to. Save it in a password manager, such as Google Password Manager, iCloud Keychain or Bitwarden, which fills it in for you on each site.
