How your age is calculated
Your age is the time between your date of birth and today (or any other date you choose). This calculator counts complete years first, then the complete months after your last birthday, then the remaining days — the same way you would count on a calendar. It takes leap years and the different lengths of months into account.
Exact age is often needed for official forms. Government exam notifications, job applications and school admissions usually set an age limit "as on" a particular date, such as 1 August or 1 January of the admission year. Change the second date to that cut-off date to see your age exactly as the form expects it.
The totals show the same age in months, weeks and days, which is handy for babies' ages, milestones such as 10,000 days, or fun facts for a birthday card. You can also see the day of the week you were born and how many days are left until your next birthday.
If you were born on 29 February, your birthday is counted on 28 February in years that are not leap years. Some countries use 1 March for legal purposes, so check the rules if the exact day matters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my age as on a specific date?
Enter your date of birth, then change "Age on this date" to the date you need, for example the cut-off date in an exam notification. The result shows your age on that exact day.
Is the result exact?
Yes. Years, months and days are counted on the calendar, including leap years and months of different lengths. Total hours assume 24 hours per day.
How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?
In non-leap years, the birthday is counted on 28 February. In leap years it is on 29 February as usual.
Is my date of birth saved anywhere?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is sent to a server or stored.
Why does a month sometimes have different numbers of days?
Calendar months have 28 to 31 days. After counting full months from your last birthday, the remaining days are counted exactly, so the day count depends on the months involved.
